HARMONY PROFILES CHOOSES LOGIKAL

"We shelved our own project and have been working with Business Micros Aluminium ever since. We had quite tight requirements on things like flexibility of reporting and on bespoke design options and they are helping us to achieve those.

For instance, we now have standard designs available within LogiKal which enable us to mix and match window systems and cills so we now always offer our preferred combinations, and we can input our sliding doors with an integrated add-on head section for a trickle vent rather than having to add that manually each time.

Harmony Architectural Aluminium is working with Business Micros Aluminium to integrate LogiKal software into its operation for the first time.

The Exeter based company, which produces windows, doors and curtain walling for both the commercial and retail sectors, had previously used a mix of system specific software from its suppliers including Smarts, Sapa, Comar and Metal Technology. By switching to the single LogiKal software programme, which has in built datasets for each of those systems, Harmony has been able to dramatically increase the efficiency of both its design and production set ups.

One of Harmony’s key competitive advantages in the market is that it provides a bespoke service to clients – often tailor making products to suit individual projects using components from different systems.

Previously, in design terms, this meant carrying out separate design work in each of the different system specific software programmes before a quote could even be issued. Now, with the introduction of LogiKal, the process is hugely streamlined and all of the design work can be done in one programme. In turn, the production processing is more efficient and more consistent with no requirement for designs or orders to be inputted more than once.

Prior to switching to LogiKal, Harmony had spent many years using the basic functionality of Business Micros’ original Winstar processing software, and had drawn up such an extensive ‘wish list’ of what it required in the software to replace it, that it had even invested in a project to try to develop its own solution.

Director Lorraine Breyley explained: “We knew the specification of our ideal software to replace Winstar and felt that the only way we could achieve that was to produce it ourselves. However, when we had a demo of the latest version of LogiKal from Business Micros Aluminium last year, we realised that it actually was already capable of doing 90% of what we wanted, and most of the additional 10% could be achieved by working directly with Business Micros Aluminium’s specialist programming and support team.

“We shelved our own project and have been working with Business Micros Aluminium ever since. We had quite tight requirements on things like flexibility of reporting and on bespoke design options and they are helping us to achieve those.

“For instance, we now have standard designs available within LogiKal which enable us to mix and match window systems and cills so we now always offer our preferred combinations, and we can input our sliding doors with an integrated add-on head section for a trickle vent rather than having to add that manually each time.

“These are small details but they are part of that final 10% which we believe will help us to maximise our advantage in the market and achieve our vision for this business in terms of efficiency and consistency.”

Four of the six strong design team at Harmony have already been fully trained on LogiKal by Business Micros Aluminium, with the last two set to undergo training soon.

As each of them has started to use the software they are increasing their individual knowledge and are continuing to use the Business Micros Aluminium support desk for help and advice.

Lorraine added: “The support desk is really impressive – the team are knowledgeable and responsive and regularly help us learn new ways of using the software to achieve our very specific objectives. We are constantly pushing the boundaries of the software and are really enjoying exploring its capabilities.”

As well as providing a huge range of modules in LogiKal, Business Micros Aluminium offers a bespoke service to all customers to ensure that the software meets their individual requirements.
